DESCRIPTION

Powassan Encephalitis, also known as the deer tick virus, is a virus that is contracted from the bite of a tick 

CAUSE

Powassan Encephalitis is caused by being bitten by a tick and can cause encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) and meningitis (inflammation of the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord)

SYMPTOMS

Sudden fever
Sore throat 
Headache disorientation
Tiredness 
Encephalitis
Meningitis
Partial paralysis

Babesiosis 

DESCRIPTION

Babesiosis is a disease found in livestock such as cattle that is contracted from the bite of an infected tick. It attacks the red blood cells and causes red or blackish urine. 

LOCATION

Babesiosis is located in the coastal areas of New England and other offshore islands 

CAUSE

Babesiosis is contracted from the bite of a tick that was infected by wild rodents such as white-footed mice.

SYMPTOMS

Slow onset of a fever
Appetite loss
Fatigue
Muscle aches
Possible prolonged anemia
Sweating
